What does having a college degree mean when looking for a job?
Some employers have come to expect that students fresh out of college are completely prepared for their new position without any training. After all they already have a college education. Unfortunately degrees usually give a good foundation but not the experience gained when actually working at a position. Especially with the abundance of the workers in the field some employers have even begun requiring degrees without regard to what the degree in as long as it was completed. The following is an interesting article outlining some of the problems facing new graduates looking for work and what their future employers are expecting.

Temp Workers' Numbers Climbing in Rocky Economy
Increased trend towards using temporary workers shows as companies gradually begin adding to their staff. What interesting is this is also showing how companies are still very tentative with their new hires and not as willing to take on permanent internal staff without first going through a trial period with a staffing agency first. For more information check out this interesting article:

Larger companies in the U.S. now using staffing agencies!
Using temporary workers enables the company to have adequate staff on busy weeknights and weekends without having to hire additional full-time staff. This is also an option for some companies to help cushion them from the changes in healthcare coming up in 2014.
Here is an interesting article on how Wal-mart is now using staffing to cover short staffing and busy seasons.

History of Gem State Staffing
Gem State Staffing was founded in 2000 by Tom & Lee Ann Welstad. The first branch opened in Idaho Falls in early 2001. Gem State Staffing became an instant success because of the dedication to quality customer service and experienced staff. The business model was simple: provide quality staffing and customer service at a competitive rate. With an unprecedented success rate in the first year of operations Gem State Staffing expanded into the Twin Falls market in 2002.
With a proven track record in Idaho Falls, the Twin Falls branch was able to open the office with confidence and quickly began to make an impact on the local community. Twin Falls, like Idaho Falls, is a rural area centered on agriculture and manufacturing. Because of the “blue collar” work ethic of its own local employee’s Gem State Staffing was able to build lasting relationships with local businesses that remain in place today.
With a robust economy and flourishing business model in place for three years Gem State Staffing expanded once again to the Treasure Valley market with the Boise office in 2004. With the opening of the Boise office Gem State Staffing was able to market its services to support companies in Southern Idaho from Oregon to Wyoming! The Treasure Valley also brought new and exciting industries into the Gem State Staffing family and provided customers a local option in the staffing industry.
With the unbelievable success of the Boise office Gem State Staffing set its sights on the west end of the Treasure Valley market with the opening of the Nampa office in 2006. Gem State Staffing continued its successful campaign to become an area leader in quality staffing and established its reputation in the incredibly competitive market.
In 2008 Gem State Staffing opened its latest office in Pocatello. Pocatello’s local economy is consistent with most rural areas in Southern Idaho relying heavily on agriculture. With a focused effort on customer service and competitive rates the Pocatello office has made an immediate impact with a promising future.
With a unique ability to adapt to any industry, Gem State Staffing has been able to tailor its services to meet each customer’s needs on an individual basis. For more than ten years Gem State Staffing has provided quality employment opportunities to thousands of people across Southern Idaho. Whether you are an individual seeking employment or an employer looking for staffing solutions, Gem State Staffing is ready to meet your needs!
